Because I am selfish.  While some are involved in SRM to “give back” to our profession or to keep current on their technical training, or even because it is “expected” by their current employer; I stay involved for selfish reasons. Technically I am retired from my first career; however, I am still involved in private land stewardship with a family ranch, but today my rangeland interactions are primarily in appraising ranch property. Certainly my range knowledge comes in mighty handy, but I am no longer affecting the management of thousands acres of rangeland as I once was.
